Kitgum

Midwifery and nursing training school

Dr. Okello Bosko Otuu, a specialist in Gynaecology-Obstetrics, has opened a Maternity and
Health Centre in the city of Kitgum, where several hundred women give birth. Since 2020, with the support of the Associazione INFANZIA ONLUS Naples, he has built a building with 9 classrooms for a Midwives School with 60 pupils/year, in an area where Maternal Mortality is
about 100 times higher than in Italy.

KIMISCHO! The Kitgum Midwifery School has become a reality thanks to the efforts of the Federiciano Athenaeum, INFANZIA Onlus and many citizens

In the Kitgum district of northern Uganda, battered by 22 years of unjust and heartbreaking war, women have paid the highest price for the destruction of villages and the disappearance of ‘Birth attendants’ the traditional practitioners. Maternal mortality has increased to
500/100,000 births (Italy 9/100,000).
Dr. Okello Bosco Otuu, among the first ‘pioneering’ graduates of the ‘GULUNAP’ project (Frederick II-University of Gulu), specializing in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, dreamed of opening a school to train 60 Midwives per year to be scattered throughout the villages
reconstituted after the war.
The building, with 6 classrooms and facilities, started in February 2019 and was completed on Feb. 18, 2020 through the underwriting of a fund by the University, INFANZIA Onlus, Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti and citizen volunteers
